The question of "who is better at Jeopardy" aside (trust us, it's Watson), the larger implications for the human race and our computer sidekicks are still unclear. Watson can currently answer simple trivia questions, sometimes couched in puns or minor riddles, with a decent level of accuracy. The answers themselves are no more than a high school student with Wikipedia access could pull off, and Watson has no way of knowing for sure when he's right. He lacks a solid, computer-readable database of "facts" like a Wolfram Alpha, or the incredible reasoning abilities of a human, instead relying on statistical analysis of vast amounts of text. When it comes to Jeopardy, it turns out to be Good Enough, which is actually a pretty incredible achievement in the world of AI, and we're sure we'll be finding out soon what other applications IBM thinks Watson is Good Enough at -- they're thinking everything from healthcare to the financial industry.
Or perhaps world domination?
Surely this is the flashback we'll all remember once Watson and his band of robot cronies are busy whipping us into our metal cells doing their emotionless bidding for all of time. Surely!
Well I for one and not ready to accept our new robotic overlords. I mean, did you not see any of the Terminator movies? At this rate, we should expect those films to become underground sensations; banned by our android dictators for fear of an uprising. Who will be our John Connor - Ken Jennings? Forgive me if I don't throw all of my cyborg defeating eggs in one basket with Mr Jennings. I mean, sure, he has a big brain. But, what does he run the 440 in? I can only assume that our afformentioned meandering menchanical masters will have vanquished poor Ken before he could even muster the strength to pull up his multi-colored gym socks.
So where does that leave us? Well, friends, rest assured that Trigon has no intention of allowing our clients to be overtaken by future autonomous servers. We're just that nice, you see? Freedom!! 01100110 01110010 01100101 01100101 01100100 01101111 01101101 00001101 00001010!
